Charlottesville is an hour and fifteen minutes west of Richmond, VA and two hours southwest of Washington, DC. The Charlottesville-Abermarle airport is serviced by several major airlines (US Airways, United, American & Delta). While it it possible to land a deal on a flight directly into Charlottesville, you're more likely to find a cheaper flight to either Richmond or Washington, DC. The most convenient airport in DC is Dulles.
Advice for Getting around Charlottesville. There are two "downtowns" in Charlottesville: one on the west side near the University of Virginia (and St. Paul's Memorial)called "The Corner," and "Historic Downtown" about a mile east. The two are connected by University Avenue, running east-west, which becomes Main Street after "The Corner" ends at a bridge. Interstate 64 runs east to Richmond and west to I 81 and the Blue Ridge Mountains. US Route 29 runs north to I 66 west of DC and US Route 29 runs south to Lynchburg and other points in Virginia and North Carolina. |
